My theory for why traveling a specific direction in Wuhu Island is faster.

For those who don’t know, the game mode Island Cycling in Wii fit plus has a 30 minute free ride mode. No checkpoints or predetermined paths to follow, so you can go anywhere on the main island.

This, as you can see, is the main island where most games take place.

And this here is the main loop that goes around the whole island:

When driving this path you can go clockwise (Route B) or counterclockwise (Route A)

My theory is that Route B is faster because it mostly consists of downhill slopes, allowing you to maintain top speed easier and for longer.

To test this I did 2, 30 minute runs in free ride. And timed each lap.

Run 1 was Route A, and run 2 was Route B. I used this path to the Hotel as the finish line:

These are the times I recorded for each lap.

A positive difference means Route B was faster by that amount, and a negative difference means Route A was faster by that amount.

Each lap is organized in sequence from the first lap I did (top of chart) to the last lap (bottom of chart) within the 30 minutes.

And these are the same times but in total seconds for a more precise way to display the time:

I would need more lap times to properly test this, however these 5 laps each Route gave some good results.

As you can see Route B lap times are consistently faster. Even if by a few seconds.

In fact there are no negative lap times in this test.

In conclusion I believe that given enough lap data Route B would average faster lap times than Route A.

My Highest Score

Since I haven’t found anyone posting their highest mileage scores for this game, and since everything has to have the fun sucked out of it by making it competitive; I’m declaring myself world record holder of highest mileage 12.887 in the free ride mode of Island Cycling.

During this test while getting lap times for Route B I actually broke my previous distance record, and achieved this score of 12.887.

On top of that in the past when I had gotten a new record it was almost always while on Route B.

Given enough effort I think 13 miles, or even 14 miles is possible.
