UPDATE I FOUND THE PART!

Update 23/11/2025

Not only did I find the part I also identified it!

Locating it turned out to be easier than I thought, I found it inside this tool box.

The part number is 6644. It's a Technic, Flex Cable End, Ball Connection with Cage.

It's used to connect a ball joint to a cable. As shown in set 8437-1 Future Car.

There are 16 sets that this part has appeared in.

The search has concluded! Only after 1 day of posting this too.

I think I actually got this part in the (Ultimate Creatures Accessory Set 8715-1), not in the 4502 set as I initially thought.

Now that the part is identified the search for it is also over. However I will leave the initial search efforts at the lower half of this page for archival purposes.

This mystery piece has been in the back of my mind for years now. Anytime I see a Lego video discussing such topics of unidentified Lego parts I always think about this strange part I have.

Before I explain further you are probably wondering “why is this a 3D render?”, the answer is simple. I have 2 large bins + some smaller ones full of Lego. And finding a single part somewhere in all of that would take a while, and I want to post about this right now.

I will update with proper photos of the part once I can actually find it.

If memory servers correctly I found this strange part in the set 4502 (Lego Star Wars x-wing with Yoda’s hut.).

As you can see in my 3D recreation of what it looks like, it’s an all black part that has a loop section that looks like it would fit over a stud. However it’s slightly too big to fit. It has a square section extruding from the loop section, and although I didn’t model this detail in the 3D recreation, that square section has a hinged door underneath that can be opened revealing an extremely small compartment.

This hinged hatch is not like what Lego normally uses, it's not a joint like many parts you're probably familiar with. The hinge is actually a thinner strip of flexible plastic that connects the door to the main structure.

Again if I remember correctly there is the LEGO text molded into the inside of the compartment (like how each stud of a normal brick has “LEGO” on it).

To this day I have no idea what this part could be. It doesn’t look like sprue especially because of the door functionality, but I really have no clue what it could even be used for.

Help me find information on this mysterious part!
