Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Shutdown

Posted: 03/09/2024

Nintendo has announced that they will shut down the online service for Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp on November 28, 2024, at 11AM ET. This marks the end of the game’s seven-year run since it's initial launch in 22 November, 2017.

However this is NOT the end of Pocket Camp as in a surprising decision by Nintendo they plan on releasing an offline paid version at a latter date.

Apparently details are planned to be shared in October 2024, But I can NOT verify that.

Xbox 360 Market Shutdown

Posted: 31/07/2024

The Xbox live market place was the app used on the Xbox 360 to buy content such as,
game, game dlc, movies, music, etc.

The games section obviously being the biggest part of the market place,
Hosting a large variety of both indie and studio games many of which were digital only.
With the eventual shutdown of the market place many games would be lost if not for emulation.
Even games made available via Xbox One are not ports but instead emulated 360 versions.

However lots of content such as gamer pics, wallpapers, avatar items, and so on were lost as said items are not available on newer systems.

On October 7, 2017 the first stages of the market shutdown had started,
With indie games being the first to go.
New indie games could not be published and users could not purchase any existing indie games.
However users could still download any indie games they had already purchased.

The indie side of the market was and still is a significant part of the 360’s history
and unfortunately a large portion of it has been somewhat lost due to the shutdown.
While some games had re-releases on new platforms, Many of the 360’s indie games did not
and are not available on newer Xboxs making 3rd party emulation the only option.

As of 29 July, 2024 (7 years later) the rest of the market shutdown permanently at approximately 1:06pm EST.
Now no content of any type can be purchased.
Anything purchased prior to the shutdown can still be re-downloaded from the users purchase history.

After the full shutdown the Xbox 360 dashboard got one final update
to remove the market place section entirely.

At this time (2024) it’s not the end of the 360’s life span as Xbox Live still works
and games can still be played online.
However the 360 is now one step closer to a complete end of it's support.
And who knows how long the remaining online functionality will continue to exist.
